X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition

Movie tie-in games usually aren’t the cream of the crop when it comes to games. With the atrocity that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it was a wonder that the game would be any better or even worse. I saw reviews for the game that were surprisingly well and I saw it on sale for $8 and I figure I can afford to gamble that much on a game. Needless to say, it was a wise investment on my part. While the general story of the game is the same as the movie, it didn’t bother as much since it was a game; or maybe it was because of the gameplay. The gameplay was pretty on point with some repetition. At its core, this game is a hack-and-slash so you have the basic light and heavy attacks with a throw; controls were somewhat similar to God of War. But it just felt fun to slice and drill through people while tearing off their limbs. And yes, there is so much blood the savage Wolverine comes out in this game, and that is perfect for me. To top it off, the cutscenes look great for a genre that usually has seen rushed games come out look like garbage. Logan’s hair is flowy; as a matter of fact everyone’s hair is flowy. The scenery included is pretty well done. In game, the graphics are pretty decent as well. It shines really well when Wolverine has to regenerate after chunks of his skin were blown off. Sometimes I would purposely blow a gas barrel up to see the flesh restore in real time. Character wise, they had Hugh Jackman and Lieve Schreiber reprise their roles from the movie. Mostly every other character from the movie is in the game, but just voiced by other people. One point where the game veered from the movie had me fighting against a certain robot set out to kill all mutant kind. This section/boss fight was probably the best section of the game. Overall, this game was a fun and bloody action game that I could see myself going back to; and for $8 it was a wise investment.
